Film News: Industry vet was also an ace ad man -- Screenwriter and ad man Philip B. "Phil" Dusenberry, who wrote 1984's Robert Redford baseball starrer "The Natural" and created such campaigns as GE's "We Bring Good Things to Life" died Saturday at his Manhattan home, having suffered from lung cancer.

As a teacher, Andrew Davies used to lecture on English literature. Not exactly your bodice-ripping, sword-flashing, adrenalin-pumping subject. But Davies managed to parlay that dry subject into glorious drama with his myriad adaptations of classic novels.

Despite poor reviews and blockbuster competition, the singing chipmunks may just have the last laugh. THE Nov. 11 test screening of "Alvin and the Chipmunks" was halfway over when the power in Westlake Village cut out. The emergency lights inside the Mann Village 8 came on, but most of preview guests still wouldn't leave their seats.
